World Vision International, a Christian-oriented child rights organization has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a tree-planting partnership between NFA in twenty-seven districts in Uganda which fall under the jurisdiction of World Vision’s projects.

The MOU is under the tree-planting drive being promoted by NFA to mitigating the adverse effects of climate change through re-afforestation and community participation to reverse the trend of the declining forest cover in Uganda. NFA will train communities about the importance of tree planting and tree nursery management and provide technical advice on site – species matching and management of the tree crop.

World Vision will purchase quality and genuine tree seeds and seedlings from NFA’s NTSC at subsidized rates to ensure good growth and maturity into good quality trees. World Vision will also mobilise community participants to be trained by NFA in managing tree seeds, seedlings, nurseries and raising trees. Schools and communities will be mobilized for purposes of planting trees in the districts where World Vision has a presence.

NFA and World Vision Uganda carry-out joint promotional campaigns to popularize the tree-planting exercise. The two organizations will monitor the progress/growth of trees in the planted areas and back-up participating communities with information on best practices in management of the different tree species planted.

World Vision has a calling for environmental concerns and cross-cutting issues and is dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. It is also committed to transforming communities through overcoming poverty and responding to disasters through providing food, shelter and water.
